W4 Games raises $18 million to bring the Godot engine to enterprises

The investment

W4 Games has raised $18 million in a Series B round, aimed at strengthening its international team and accelerating development of enterprise-focused features for the open-source game engine Godot. The round was led by tech giant Tencent, with additional backing from OSS Capital, LUX, investor Naval Ravikant, and the family office of Shopify founder Tobias Lütke. That brings the company's total funding raised to $33 million.

Growth plans

W4 Games wants to grow its team by 50% to keep up with rising developer demand for Godot solutions. Alongside the investment, the company is entering a multi-year strategic partnership with Tencent focused on market expansion, localization, and ecosystem development in Asia.

Godot on the rise

The open-source engine is growing fast: the number of Godot titles on Steam grew more than 50% year over year in both 2024 and 2025. Even more striking is the commercial growth — the number of Godot games generating more than $1 million in annual revenue has risen from two to more than fifty over the past three years.

Reactions

W4 Games co-CEO Nicola Farronato calls the partnership with Tencent "an important next step" in the company's global expansion and in making Godot more accessible to more studios and developers. Godot creator Juan Linietsky says the engine "has grown into one of the fastest-growing game engine technologies in the world," with W4 Games serving as a driving force behind adoption by major studios.
