Snapmatic

This policy explains how Snapmatic, made by VAIIYA, handles your data. It supplements the general VAIIYA privacy policy, which also applies. Last updated: October 2026.

Public photos and posts

SNAPMATIC is a photo app. Photos, captions, hashtags, comments and likes are public by nature and can be seen by anyone.

SNAPMATIC is built on decentralized communication (Nostr). Your photos travel across an open network of independent servers and media hosts. We build and maintain the app; we do not operate that network, and we do not host your photos on our own servers.

Content published to the network cannot be changed or deleted by us once it has been broadcast. Do not post anything you do not want to share publicly.

Your account and identity

SNAPMATIC does not use an email-and-password account. Your account is a private key that only you hold, stored on your device. Back up your key in Settings: if you lose it, nobody can recover your account.

SNAPMATIC has no wallet and no payments, and it sends no push notifications.

Camera and your photos

Photos are taken with the in-app camera. SNAPMATIC does not scan or read your photo gallery in the background. Before a photo is shared, it is re-encoded so that location data (GPS) and other camera metadata are removed.

  • Camera: to take the photos you post
  • Internet and network state: to connect to the network and load photos

SNAPMATIC does not access your contacts or your location. It only uses the camera, and the microphone only if you choose to record audio or video.

Services the app connects to

SNAPMATIC does not run servers that store your photos, captions or comments. To work, the app connects to services that other parties run:

  • Nostr relays: independent servers that store and pass on posts, likes and comments. They are run by many different people and organisations, and each relay decides for itself what it keeps or removes.
  • A feed and search service operated by Primal (primal.net): the app asks it for feeds, search results and profile information.
  • A media host (a Blossom server operated by Primal, blossom.primal.net): your photo is uploaded there when you press Post, and your post links to it.

Like any server you connect to, these services can see your device’s IP address and your public key. They have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. VAIIYA does not receive or store your photos, captions or comments on its own servers.

SNAPMATIC is a client on the Nostr network: an app for reading and publishing on it, nothing more. We do our best to keep our own app safe and pleasant, but we have no influence over the Nostr network itself or over the relays and media hosts that make it up. Because the network is decentralised, published content is held by those independent parties, and whoever operates a relay or media host is responsible for what it stores.

What we do control is what the app shows: you can report and mute in the app, and we can hide accounts for everyone through our blocklist. See our child safety standards for how we handle reports.

Advertising

SNAPMATIC is free and supported by occasional ads between photos, always labelled “Sponsored”. To serve and measure ads, the app uses your device’s advertising identifier (advertising ID). Ads are served through Google AdMob. How AdMob uses your device’s advertising identifier, and how to reset or limit it, is described in Section 5 of the general VAIIYA privacy policy.

How deletion works

To delete your SNAPMATIC data from the app, wipe the key in the app. Once the key is wiped it cannot be recovered. Photos that were already published to the network may remain on independent servers and media hosts, which VAIIYA does not control.

Age and safety

SNAPMATIC is for adults aged 18 and over. You can mute accounts and report content in the app. Read how we handle reports in our child safety standards, linked below.
